SOPHIE TO OPEN IN TORONTO, MONTREAL AND OTTAWA ON OCTOBER 28TH

AND IN CALGARY AND WINNIPEG ON NOVEMBER 4TH

For immediate release

Toronto – October  13, 2011 – D FILMS is pleased to announce that the family film SOPHIE, starring Brittany Bristow (‘Baxter’, Made, Blizzard), John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones), Erica Durance (‘Smallville’) and Deborah Kara Unger (The Hurricane, Crash) will open theatrically in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa on Friday, October 28th.  The film will also open in Calgary and Winnipeg on Friday, November 4th.

Directed by accomplished industry veteran Lief Bristow, SOPHIE is the story of a 17-year-old ballerina who joins a traveling circus to reclaim her best friend – a 5-ton elephant named Sheba. Growing up on the grounds of her parents’ family-operated zoo, Sophie’s life was focused on two great loves – ballet and animals. A natural performer, Sophie dreamed of studying at the American Ballet, but high tuition fees and mounting costs at home force Sophie’s parents to make a sacrifice and sell her beloved Sheba to a traveling circus. Abandoning her previous dance dreams, Sophie sets off to reclaim Sheba.  Along the way Sophie makes a deal with the eccentric circus owner Alistair Winston – she will perform with Sheba until she has earned her back. However, when a reporter following the story points out to Sophie that repatriation to Africa and not her family zoo might be best for Sheba, Sophie is torn.

SOPHIE is produced by Knightscove Media Corp., a leading Canadian producer of family friendly entertainment and will be distributed by D Films Corp. exclusively in Canada.
