D FILMS Presents Carmen LIVE via Satellite from Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona

on October 13th at 2 PM ET/11 AM PST

in Toronto: AMC Yonge and Dundas

and in Montreal: AMC Forum

October 7, 2010 – – D FILMS in partnership with Emerging Pictures to showcase the Opera in Cinema series: exceptional European opera presented in HD and surround sound. Ballets and Shakespeare plays will also be featured.

Carmen has been seducing opera fans for more than a century. A new production, based on the one Calixto Bieito created for the Peralada Festival, will be presented live on October 13 at 2 PM Eastern Standard Time from Spain’s historic Gran Teatre del Liceu, the hometown theatre for such Catalan artists as Conchita Supervia, Montserrat Caballé, and Jose Carreras.

Carmen has given rise to numerous adaptations and owes it greatness to its innovative conception, well-crafted plot and brilliant melodic, harmonic and instrumental inventiveness. It relates the clash between a gypsy who passionately defends her personal sense of freedom and a Navarrese soldier with a possessive, traditionally male mentality. Their relationship unleashes a tragedy that extends far beyond the setting.
