D FILMS ACQUIRES EXCLUSIVE CANADIAN RIGHTS TO CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED FILM
LE QUATTRO VOLTE (THE FOUR TIMES) BY MICHELANGELO FRAMMARTINO

Toronto, ON (Sunday, September 19, 2010) – D FILMS, Canada’s fastest growing distribution company, today announced that it has acquired exclusive Canadian rights in all media to Michelangelo Frammartino’s extraordinary film LE QUATTRO VOLTE, winner of the Europa Cinemas Label for best European film at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight. Widely praised for its genre-defying beauty and ingenuity, this wordless, evocative and lively story of anarchic goats and reincarnation was one of the most talked about films at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. The announcement was made jointly today by Tony Cianciotta, President of Acquisitions for D FILMS, and by Olimpia Pont Cháfer, Head of Sales and by Fionnuala Jamison, International Sales, for Paris-based Sales outfit, Coproduction Office.

LE QUATTRO VOLTE enthralled audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this week where the film had its North American premiere. Told with wordless humour and pathos, this cinematic gem is set in the Calabrian hills of Italy, in a timeless place of unbroken traditions. The film’s poetic vision of the revolving cycles of life and nature, said to be inspired by Pythagoras’s belief in four-fold transmigration – by which the soul is passed from human to animal to vegetable to mineral, until completely purified, tells the story of one soul that moves through four successive lives.

“We were completely captivated by the beauty and profound insights of LE QUATTRO VOLTE and can’t wait to bring this remarkable film to Canadian audiences,” said Cianciotta.

D FILMS will release LE QUATTRO VOLTE in tandem with Kino Lorber in the first quarter of 2011.

The deal was negotiated by President and CEO Jim Sherry and by Tony Cianciotta for D FILMS and by Olimpia Pont Cháfer and Fionnuala Jamison on behalf of Coproduction Office.
