D FILMS ACQUIRES EXCLUSIVE CANADIAN DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS TO WELCOME TO ME, STARRING KRISTEN WIIG, LINDA CARDELLINI, TIM ROBBINS, JOAN CUSACK, WES BENTLEY, JENNIFER JASON LEIGH AND JAMES MARSDEN

September 12th, 2013 – D FILMS, Canada’s fastest growing distribution company, has acquired the exclusive, long-term Canadian distribution rights in all media to Shira Piven’s new comedy, Welcome to Me, starring Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids), Linda Cardellini (ER), Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption), Joan Cusack (In & Out), Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Machinist) and James Marsden (X Men) from Cargo Entertainment. The announcement was made today by President and CEO of D Films, Jim Sherry.

Welcome to Me tells the story of Alice (Wiig), who suffers from borderline personality disorder and wins the lottery only to decide to spend her money on a cable access talk show about herself. The show reflects her larger-than-life personality and absolute obsession with wanting to be famous, even if it means alienating her friends and family in the process.

Directing is Shira Piven (Fully Loaded), from a screenplay by Eliot Laurence. The dramatic comedy is produced by Aaron L. Gilbert and Marina Grasic with Margot Hand as co-producer on behalf of BRON Studios. For Gary Sanchez Productions, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Jessica Elbaum are producers, with Robyn Wholey as executive producer. Kristen Wiig is also a producer. Welcome to Me recently wrapped production in California.

Gary Sanchez Productions’ recent credits include The Other GuysBachelorette and the soon to be released Anchorman: The Legend Continues. Since her box-office hit and critically acclaimedBridesmaids has gone on to gross over $250m worldwide, Kristen Wiig is one of the industry’s most sought after actresses.
