D Films Corporation is a leader in the field of independent film distribution, focusing on motion picture and television content through the acquisition of long-term exclusive rights via strategic investments with major global film producers.
Founded in Toronto, Canada in 2009, D Films has established its brand within the Canadian entertainment and media industry while aggregating exclusive long-term rights to 91 feature-length motion pictures.
In 2017, the Company expanded its business and incorporated an in-house production division through a 50-50 joint venture, headed by industry veteran Rob Merilees, producer of CAPOTE (nominated for 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture) and the multi-award winning TV series Motive (ABC). Mr. Merilees recently produced the Netflix Original film BRAIN ON FIRE starring Chloƫ Grace Moretz.
JIM SHERRY – President and CEO
Jim Sherry is the President and CEO of D Films Corporation and has held the position since founding the company in 2009.
A business leader within the entertainment sector for over two decades, Jim Sherry has substantial experience in building world-class organizations in both Canada and the United States. Mr. Sherry began his career working with independent powerhouses New Line Cinema and Miramax Films in New York and more recently, he is credited with the restructuring and expansion of two of Canada’s most successful film distribution companies, Alliance Films and Maple Pictures.
Mr. Sherry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in Marketing and Management from Jersey City State University.
DARRYL IWAI – Executive Chairman/Board Member
Darryl Iwai is a successful Canadian entrepreneur and investor.
Since joining the Mr.Board of Directors in 2010, Darryl Iwai has served as the Executive Chairman and Co-Owner of D Films Corporation. Mr. Iwai has a long and successful history not only in the energy and real estate sectors but in the entertainment industry, having formerly served as President of PolyGram Filmed Entertainment Canada, where he spearheaded the organization’s growth initiatives. Subsequent to his tenure at Polygram, Mr. Iwai served as President of Worldwide Distribution for Signpost Films, an international production and distribution company based in London and Los Angeles. Both Polygram and Signpost were later acquired by major U.S. Studios.
A CPA and CA, Mr. Iwai also holds a B.Comm. from the University of Toronto. He is also a shareholder and board member of KTI Limited and Fountain Hills Investment Ltd.
ROMAN DORONIUK – Board Member
Roman Doroniuk is a consultant providing financial and strategic advisory services to a variety of companies in the healthcare, industrial manufacturing, and media industries.
Mr. Doroniuk sits on the board of Martinrea International Inc. and acts as the court-appointed special receiver in the matter of the Livent Inc. bankruptcy. Mr. Doroniuk was Executive Vice President of Magna International Inc. and Chief Operating Officer of Magna Entertainment Corp. from January 2003 to October 2003, President of Lions Gate Entertainment from October 1998 to April 2000, and Chief Financial Officer of Alliance Communications Corporation from October 1995 to September 1998.
Mr. Doroniuk holds a Bachelor of Business Management from Ryerson University and is a Chartered Accountant.0
