CANADIAN DISTRIBUTOR D FILMS BOASTS ITS LARGEST TIFF LINE UP YET!

August 13, 2014 — D Films is pleased to be representing five high profile premieres at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.  The impressive lineup includes the world premieres of Cake, Welcome to Me, Backcountry and My Old Lady along with the Canadian premiere of The Guest.

Cake – World Premiere

 While struggling with her own trauma, a woman in a chronic-pain support group (Golden Globe® winner Jennifer Aniston) begins to investigate the suicide of a fellow group member (Academy Award® nominee Anna Kendrick) and develops an unexpected relationship with the woman’s husband (Sam Worthington), in this highly anticipated drama.  The film also features a stellar supporting cast including Academy Award® nominees William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman as well as Mamie Gummer, Chris Messina and Britt Robertson.  The film is directed by Daniel Barnz and produced by Courtney Solomon for Cinelou Films.

Welcome to Me – World Premiere

A woman suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder (Academy Award® nominee Kristen Wiig) becomes an overnight celebrity after a huge lottery jackpot allows her to launch her own off-the-wall talk show. The dramedy also stars Academy Award® winner Tim Robbins, James Marsden, Joan Cusack, Linda Cardellini, Wes Bentley and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Welcome to Me is produced by comedy legends Will Ferrell and Adam MacKay for Gary Sanchez Productions.

Backcountry – World Premiere

In this sharp, smartly paced thriller, a hyper-busy executive (Missy Peregrym, Rookie Blue) and her boyfriend (Jeff Roop) head into the woods for a weekend retreat from big-city pressures – but after an unsettling encounter with a stranger (Eric Balfour, Haven), they find themselves at the mercy of nature’s tooth and claw.  The film is directed by Adam MacDonald (Rookie Blue) who is making his feature film directorial debut.

My Old Lady – World Premiere

A harried New Yorker (Academy Award® winner Kevin Kline) trying to sell the Parisian apartment he’s inherited from his late father runs up against its current occupants – a spirited elderly woman (Academy Award® winner Maggie Smith) and her acid-tongued daughter (Academy Award® nominee Kristin Scott Thomas) – in this warm and witty comedy-drama from the great American playwright Israel Horovitz.  The film is being released in the US on September 10, 2014 by Cohen Media Group with a Canadian theatrical release to follow on October 3, 2014.

The Guest – Canadian Premiere

Writer-director duo Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard (A Horrible Way to Die, You’re Next) serve up a slick, eighties-style action thriller with this story of a mysterious and devastatingly charming visitor (Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens) who arrives at the home of a bereaved family claiming to be the best friend of their dead son. The film also stars rising star Maika Monroe. The highly anticipated film is being released in the US on September 17, 2014 by Picturehouse with a Canadian theatrical release to follow on September 26, 2014.

The 2014 Toronto International Film Festival will run from September 4 -14, 2014.
